Are you hearing crackling in your ear? Crackling, Buzzing, “static” or whooshing noises in your ear can all be signs of a disorder called tinnitus. Here is some relevant facts.

Ever hear crackling, thumping, and buzzing sounds that seem to come out of nowhere? If you have hearing aids, it can mean that they need to be adjusted or aren’t fitted correctly. But if you don’t use hearing aids it may be tinnitus.

There’s much more to the ear than what you see on the outside. Here are a few of the more prevalent noises you may hear inside your ears, and what they may indicate is happening.

What’s The Cause of The Snap, Crackle, And Pop in My Ear?

We can tell you one thing – it’s not Rice Krispies. When the pressure in your ears changes – whether from an altitude change, going underwater, or simply yawning – you may hear crackling or popping noises. These noises are caused by a small part of your ear known as the eustachian tube. When these mucus lined passages open up to equalize the air pressure, fluid, and air move causing these noises to occur.

Occasionally, such as when you’re dealing with allergies, a cold, or an ear infection, an overabundance of mucus in your system can clog up the eustachian tubes and interfere with what is ordinarily an automatic process (don’t forget, that there’s a connection between your ears, throat, and nose). Medical assistance, like surgery, is occasionally called for in extreme cases where nothing else has helped clear the blockage.

What Does it Mean When I Hear Vibrations in My Ear?

Sometimes tinnitus manifests as a vibration in the ears. Tinnitus is the medical term for a condition that causes people to hear sounds that have no outside cause, such as vibrations, inside of the ear. Most people will refer to it as a ringing in the ears and it manifests across the spectrum, from hardly there to debilitating.

Is There Anything That Can be Done?

Once again, if you use hearing aids, you should check those first. There may be several reasons that you would hear these sounds: your batteries need to be recharged, the hearing aids aren’t properly seated in your ears, the volume is too loud, or your hair is brushing up against it. But if you don’t have hearing aids and you’re hearing this type of sound, it might also be due to excess earwax.

It seems logical that too much wax could make it hard to hear and cause itchiness or even inner ear infections, but how can earwax cause a sound? The ringing or buzzing can be caused by earwax touching your eardrum and hindering its function. The good thing is, earwax problems are easily fixed.
